Naturopathic medicine is a distinct American health care profession dating back to the late 1800’s when the first naturopathic professional societies were formed. By the early 20th century more than 20 naturopathic medical colleges had been founded in the U. S., and naturopathic physicians were licensed in most states. With the rise of pharmaceutical drugs and “heroic” medicine the naturopathic profession experienced a substantial decline which has reversed in the last four decades.  Naturopathic medicine is now licensed in 16 states (see www.naturopathic.org for more information). 

Naturopathic doctors are experts in natural medicine who are trained in primary care medicine, combining centuries-old therapies with current advances in the study of human health. The focus is on whole-patient treatment and wellness, with an emphasis on prevention and self-care, and identification of the underlying cause of the problem, not just symptomatic treatment. Dr. Oceana Rames is a licensed naturopathic physician utilizing therapies such as homeopathy, nutrition, botanical medicine, and lifestyle counseling.  Dr. Rames is certified in Environmental Medicine, using specific testing and treatment protocols to reduce chemical and heavy metal toxicity.  Dr. Rames is a certified FirstLine Therapy practitioner (www.metagenics.com), working with clients on weight loss, exercise, and proper diet; and leads classes on Altering your Body Composition-not just Weight Loss; and Juice Fasting.
